"I've heard that 80% of America is made up of anthropocentric and passionate Christians who deny the theory of evolution.
Could this be a misconception on my part?
I think it probably is.
I think there are a great many misconceptions between Americans and Japanese.
If only we could overcome these through manga."

let me say something about the
ReplyDelete:Americans and Japanese:
because is studied them in the academy and now have lived with a real japanese woman for five weeks. my quick summation of japanese culture and the clash between ours and theirs. this is all from my tiny little window into the issue but i'll say it like i have some authority. japanese consume popular culture voraciously and with an overwhelming appetite for all things american. they do not talk about metaphysics as much us we do. for probably better than worse. when i raise my voice and get emotional it freaks my japanese roommate out. everyone in japan starts learning english very young and everyone in america fantasizes about learning japanese one day when they really get their shit together and start sitting zazen every day. japanese people find it funny that we think buddhism is so fresh and hip. it would be like going to japan and finding out that everyone is just discovering catholicism and thinks its just great and they know more about its history than most catholics that go to church every sunday. japanese people have shinto births, christian weddings and buddhist funerals but nobody is religious. americans think spirituality is way better than religion but most have an answer when asked if they are religious.
and i guess that's all i have to say about that, but its funny living with a japanese person and realizing that my romantic notions of japanese culture are ridiculous. something similar to thinking that american culture resembles native american culture.
i would like to know what manga is. maybe ill look it up.
